Playing catch up again...
We have had quite a round of sickness through the Wyatt household as of late. The weekend before last, Alden came down with a fever, no other symptoms, and couldn't seem to shake it. That, combined with daylight savings time, led to some short nights for mom and dad. Luckily, that Sunday, after being up with a temp around 103 for a couple hours, she slept until 11:00. WOW. We excused ourselves from church, since we obviously couldn't leave her in the nursery, and enjoyed the extra rest.
My mom has come to town a couple times recently, once for a workshop she was doing in Charlotte, and once on her way back from a conference in Asheville. We enjoyed a night out to dinner with she and Nana at a fun restaurant called Jimmy's. This is where Alden discovered her love for butter. No bread, thank you, just butter packets. Probably not a habit to condone, but the poor child won't drink milk that well, so at least it helps with the dairy requirements...We ate dinner at Nana's on night, too, which was great, and is definitely Matt's preference over my cooking. Alden really enjoys the rocker at Nana's house. We couldn't get her out of it.
Last week, my mom came by on her way from Asheville and stayed with us Wednesday night and into Thursday. Alden and I rode back with her to Raleigh after my doctor's appointment that afternoon, and enjoyed some QT with Grammy and Auntie Amber before Matt came up on Friday night.
Speaking of my doctor's appointment, I met another one of the doctor's in the practice, who was also really nice. I have been very impressed with all of them so far. Unfortunately, he did not seem very impressed with my 7 pound weight gain over the past 4 weeks. I can tell that Hudson/my belly is getting quite a bit bigger, but I was surprised it was that much too. I guess I will have to really limit my Peep/Starburst Jellybean intake with Easter coming up. Stinkin'. Another thing to look forward to, is the lovely compression stocking he gave me a prescription for for my right leg. I have a weird veiny-thing by my knee that began 4 years ago as a bruise from having my leg pinched by stirrup leathers, and has developed into a striking purply thing. Luckily, it went down after I had Alden, and hopefully, it will after Hudson, too....especially with the giant stocking. I will make sure to post a picture of it for all to see when I get it. I know you can't wait.
Alden had a blast throwing coins in the fountains at the mall with Amber, while mom did some shopping. Amber said she thinks Alden is happiest at my parents' house. I said that is probably true because she has hundreds of different toys to play with, people who will entertain her all the time, a swing, a bike, the neighbor's swingset, the bridge over the creek and the greenway. It has got to be more fun that hanging at home with mom, who has to do pesky chores around the house, like making dinner and washing clothes. She played outside a lot, and was back and forth between the swing, her tricycle, and the neighbors sandbox most of Saturday and Sunday.
The purpose of our Raleigh trip was for my friend Laura's bridal shower, which 4 of us hosted at the Oakwood Inn Bed and Breakfast. It was so fun, and I was surprised how tasty scones and tea sandwiches are. Especially considering I am more of a lard cake and hot dog girl. It was great to have all of our college AXO friends together and to celebrate Laura! We had a fun time out that night too, for her bachelorette party. Obviously, Hudson and I didn't get to do a lot of hard core partying, but it was fun to be out with everyone. We went to a place called Bogarts for dinner and then to a bar called Stool Pigeons afterwards. Amber later informed me that Stool Pigeons is kind of shady, but what else do you want for a bachelorette??
Alden and I came back with Matt on Sunday, after a quick visit with our friends Karen and Craig. They were in Colorado when we were, and have since moved to Raleigh. However, they just found out they are moving to St. Petersburg, FL, where Craig is taking a youth pastor job. This gives us some hope, as they have been on the same path of uncertainty concerning their futures, and God always seems to move friends away before or after we move somewhere. It would be great to be in Raleigh, and not have to do all the driving back and forth.
This week has been marked by our usual weekly activities, with the exception of Bible Study being replaced with a brunch for a small group at a friend's house. Alden had a great time being entertained by the "big kids" and even found a toy hair dryer that she enjoyed playing with. Two of the boys were wrestling at one point, and she thought it was hilarious. She was running all around, and throwing herself on the ground like they were doing. We all decided that she will do just fine with a brother.
Matt's parents came up last night to bring Matt his birthday present and take us to dinner. It was a treat to see them, even just for a couple hours, and Alden enjoyed some more butter packets.
Today we have done our typical library/Y morning. The highlight was the opening of a new Super Bi-Lo near the Y, where Alden and I basically had lunch from all the free samples. I think that someone may have even come to see our house this morning, as there was a mysterious business card on the table. Unfortunately, in our rush to get out of the house this morning, there was still french toast on a plate on the table and dirty dishes in the sink. Obviously, those folks aren't meant to buy the house, huh?
Alden has had a blast playing with Matt since he will push her on her scooter around the house. She just keeps saying "More, more" and I think it about wears him out. The other night, she grabbed his cooler, and walked out of the kitchen saying, "Bye, I'm leaving," and then walking around the house, and back into the kitchen and saying "Hewo." It was really cute. She has been really into her On the Go Baby Einstein with the horse puppet in it, and requests it every time we go downstairs saying, "Neigh, neigh."
We have 6 Elmo books which are her absolute favorite things to read. As soon as she wakes up, she asks for her "Elmo Boos" and I think we read them each 5-6 times a day. Every now and then, mom has to hide the Elmo Books under the bed so that we have a little break from them.
The other day we picked her up at the Y, and they said she had been really sweet to the kids that were crying, patting them on the back and talking to them. And this from the child who would scream until they came to get us for the first couple weeks we took her.

Little Fish
Let's pick up with our trip to Aiken. We had a quick, but good trip to Aiken two weekends ago. Matt got to see a civil war reenactment with his dad, I got to get out to see a horse show, and Alden got to play with he Grandma and Grandpa. They had gotten some fun toys for their house, which were a huge hit. And saves us having to lug another bag for next time. Matt and I got to have a dinner out by ourselves at his old place of employ, Ruby Tuesday, which had been completely redone inside. There was only one other guy Matt recognized, but as we reflected on it, it has been almost 2 YEARS since we were there! Wow! The event I went to was great - got to see some famous event people, and was encouraged by the number of older (read: older than 50) people competing. As much as I am missing riding now, it is encouraging to think that if I am still riding at 50 that is 20 years from now. I can learn a lot in that amount of time!
We had to come back early from Aiken for Matt to work at the Hilton on Sunday night, and I think that God knew I needed some company. Nana called and took Alden and I to dinner, and spent the evening with us doing the bath routine and watching the Oscars. It was great to spend time with her, especially after I had been dreading spending the evening alone with Alden.
This past week was busy, filled with our usual playgroups, library, and Y time. Alden is starting to say "Y", and is getting better about going. She had her last swim lesson for the month on Friday, and did a great job with her reaching, kicking and bubbles. Miss Tracy said she was doing great, and we will look forward to starting lessons again in April. Matt had gone with us earlier in the week and could see a big difference in what she has learned, climbing in and out of the pool, monkeying down the side with her hands, and holding a kickboard. She will float on her back with a duck balancing on her tummy sometimes, although please don't think she can do any not-touching-the-wall things without support. She is not a fish yet, but was really proud of her certificate of completion that she received from Miss Tracy.
Friday afternoon, we made an impromptu stop at the doctor's office after Alden had some crusty eye stuff that day. Turns out, she had pink eye, athlete's foot, and a paci rash, which all together makes for a crusty, infectious little girl. She got some medicine, and although she doesn't like having her eyedrops administered, she seems to get a kick out of putting them in our eyes, her animals, etc. She talks a lot about the doctor, and was really good for Dr. Courtney to check out all her boo-boos.
Alden is a big jumper lately...and somersaulter. She loves to dance and sing songs, and jumps up and down a lot. Today, as we were leaving Bible Study, she jumped over all the cracks in the sidewalk. This did mean that it took about 15 minutes to walk 30 yards to the car, but I was feeling gracious.
Last Friday, I got to shop early at the Y's consignment sale, and found some great little boy outfits for Hudson. It was sad to not look at little baby girl clothes, because they are so much cuter, but I need to accept that it will be fun to buy blue things, too. I found a few things for Alden and a really cute sundress for myself. Saturday morning I was up uncharacteristically early to volunteer for said consignment sale, and ended up having a great time. Besides the free Krispy Kremes, I met a neat lday named Bobbi who has 4 horses and 3 kids, and invited me to ride anytime after Husdon is born, or to come and see her 2 miniature horses with Alden before then. Hopefully, we won't be here then, but we really hit it off and I am always looking for a chance to ride!
Speaking of not being here long, Alden and I had lunch with our realtor Pam on Friday, too, and lowered the price of our house. Things are not moving at all in our neighborhood, and we are prayerful and hopeful that things will pick up this spring. We are also trying to be patient and enjoy Charlotte, and where we are, and looking for the purpose in our time here. Who knows, God's plans could be much different than what we are thinking, and probably are.
