We left on the 2nd of July to drive up to Lake Mohawk to see Grandma and Grandpa. Alden and Hudson did great on the way up, with many thanks to Amber for letting us borrow the DVD player. It was our savior! I wasn't sure what to expect about potty stops and the road trip, but we only had to stop 3 times on the way up, and one of those was a false alarm.Much to our surprise, it was COLD in Ohio. OK, not like freezing or anything, but definitely you-need-long-sleeves-and-pants cold. And I had only brought 1 long sleeve/pants option for each of us! Friday ended up being a little drizzly, too, but the weather cleared up for the fireworks that night. Leigh Anne, Rachel, Mike, Matt, Grandpa, Alden and I went out on the boat to watch the show, and Alden LOVED it. Hudson stayed back at the house with Grandma and Eric, and eventually went to sleep after fighting it for a couple hours. Gotta love that transition to a new place...and sleeping in a pack and play.Saturday, we had a great time hanging out with Andrew, Lori and Libby, who drove down from Hudson. The kids got in the pool for a little while, but it was still pretty chilly. The guys all went out on the boat, and we enjoyed a campfire that night. Even Alden got to come down and enjoy a s'more with us since the fireworks were keeping her up.
Sunday was family day at the lake, and most of Matt's extended family came over for lunch and hang out time. Sunday was a beautiful day, and perfect for getting in the pool (where Alden was for, oh, about 4 hours), going on the boat and playing corn hole.Monday, we spent time in the pool again, and enjoyed relaxing while the kids took their naps. Tuesday, we made a day trip up to Hudson to visit with Josh Mitchell, Kess and Aimee and the Thomases. Our dinner at Andrew and Lori's was great, but Alden and Hudson were absolutely fried by the end. We tried to get all the kids in the tub, and managed to barely get our screaming pair washed and pajamed and into the car.Wednesday morning, Alden and Grandma went to the library and out to lunch, while Hudson stayed back at the house with Matt and I. Pretty much every afternoon, we sat around the pool while the kids napped and then played in the pool with them until dinner. Alden swam like a champ and jumped off the wall a bunch of times, made a noodle bed, and actually swam about 8 feet by herself. (That is about as far as she can go without breathing) Hudson had fun, too, although he liked wandering around and sticking things in the hole of the skimmer cover more than actually being in the water.
Thursday morning, we went over to Scott and Marilyn's house to see Scott's amazing garden and to visit.Hudson took a ride in the wagon, and Alden got to sit on Uncle Scott's tractor.Alden learned how to pedal a real bike while we were there, and rode around and around their back patio.Thursday afternoon, we went out on the boat for a little while. Hudson was a trooper in the lifejacket. I think at his age, the lifejacket is just not that comfortable, and he couldn't really move his head. It was like he was immobilized.
Alden and Matt rode on the tube. Alden loved it!
Friday, we took the kids to the beach part of the lake. They had such a good time playing in the sand, and Alden even went down the really big slide into the water.
Saturday, we went to the wedding of one of Matt's good friends, and got to do a lot of visiting and catching up. Leigh Anne and Eric graciously watched the kids, and took them to visit Eric's cousin who has two young kids, and more importantly, ponies and a cow. We all met up at a restaurant for dinner with
It was sad to pack up and leave on Sunday. Especially since I knew I had to start orientation for my job Monday morning.
